Friday 10th October, 7:30pm

The Hurstpierpoint Society is delighted to invite members to a special evening talk at Danny House, generously hosted by Richard Burrows.

The speaker will be Paul Spencer Sochaczewski, writer and researcher who has spent more than 50 years studying Alfred Russel Wallace – the pioneering naturalist who independently conceived the theory of evolution by natural selection, alongside Charles Darwin.

Wallace has a close connection to Hurstpierpoint. Between 1867 and 1870, he stayed at Treeps, the home of esteemed bryologist William Mitten and his daughters. It was here that he worked on his celebrated book The Malay Archipelago, and married one of Mitten’s daughters; Annie.

Paul has lectured at institutions including the Royal Geographical Society and the London School of Economics, and has written widely on Wallace’s life and work.
